Songfacts®:

  • This is another song from Breaking Glass, the soundtrack of the film that thrust Hazel O'Connor into the limelight. In her 1981 autobiography Hazel O'Connor - Uncovered Plus. she says she wrote "Eighth Day" 12 hours before she recorded it as a parallel of the book of Genesis. In the Biblical version, God made the Earth in six days and rested on the seventh; here, Man remakes it in his own image, and "having unleashed elements he cannot control, the Man-made Machine Monster takes over".

This was the final scene from the film, and the lead character Kate's "own Armageddon." >>>
