Songfacts®:

  • "16" tells the heartbreaking true story of Highly Suspect frontman Johnny Stevens falling in love for the first time at 16 years old. After seven years together, his girlfriend told him the joyful news she was pregnant with their baby. However, at the moment of the birth, Stevens was devastated to learn that the baby was a different race and therefore wasn't his.
  • The song topped Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs chart despite being described by the press release as "completely guitar free." It was Highly Suspect's second #1 on the survey following 2016's "My Name Is Human."

  • Jamie from NdI'm sorry for your pain johnny suspect, but I'm very excited to learn this is in fact a true story. I love this song and have been making sure everyone I know has not just heard it (you heard me but were you listening?!) But understands the full story of your song as well. Cause (from the outside of this situation obviously) it's a damn good story, like perfect story to make into a song. And you executed this absolutely in the most perfect fashion. Again, I am slightly sorry for your pain, but extremely grateful is really how I truly feel if I shall be honest. Thank you Mr Suspect. You brighten my tiny world and I almost love you for it
