Songfacts®:

  • A super blood moon is a combination of three lunar events: a supermoon, a total lunar eclipse, and a blood moon. The term "super blood moon" was first coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1983. He defined it as a total lunar eclipse that occurs during a perigee moon, the point in the moon's orbit when it is closest to Earth. Super blood moons are relatively rare, occurring about once every 2.5 years, and they can be quite spectacular.

Holly Humberstone recorded this song inspired by the astronomical phenomenon for her debut album, Paint My Bedroom Black. It features American singer and songwriter d4vd.
  • "Superbloodmoon" spins a cosmic tale of star-crossed souls thousands of miles apart yet united under an extraordinary lunar eclipse. The track drips with raw feels - yearning, nostalgia, an ache to bridge the gap. It's a love letter to those who tattoo our hearts, their essence echoing even when they're a galaxy away. This song's a reminder that some connections never fade no matter the distance that stretch between.
  • Holly Humberstone and d4vd wrote the song in a few hours at Holly's longtime producer Rob Milton's studio. The song mirrors their shared journey, globetrotting on tour in search of a lifeline amid the chaos, a yearning for the embrace of those absent but not forgotten. "It came pretty naturally as we had both been touring for what seemed like forever, and wanted to write about the feelings that come with leaving your home and the people you love behind," said Humberstone. "I had the title for the song on my notes, and it just stemmed from there. We wrote about witnessing the same thing from opposite sides of the world and feeling lonely but connected through that experience at the same time."
  • The two artists gave "Superbloodmoon" its live debut at d4vd's Islington Assembly Hall show on May 30, 2023, when Humberstone appeared as a special guest.
