Songfacts®:

  • Nashville pop rock band Hot Chelle Rae began with a meeting between singer-songwriter Nash Overstreet and guitarist Ryan Follese in 2005. After several changes, they eventually finalised their line up as Follese (lead vocalist), Overstreet (lead guitarist) plus Ian Keaggy (bass,), and Jamie Follese (drums) and named themselves after their first "dedicated" fan, Chelle Rae. They were signed to Jive Records in October 2008, and then began work on their first album, Lovesick Electric, which was released on October 23, 2009. This single is the title track of their EP, and it became their first song to enter the Hot 100 when it debuted at #93 on the chart dated April 30, 2011.
  • The song was used by ABC to promote their hit comedy Modern Family and the Matthew Perry starring show Mr. Sunshine.
  • The comedic song's music video features a cameo from Glee's Chord Overstreet, who happens to be the brother of Nash. Whilst Ryan and Jamie Follese play office nerds, nobody was surprised to see the Glee heartthrob portraying a lady charmer.
  • This was the fifth Hot 100 top ten hit to feature the word "tonight" as the only word in its title. The other four were:
    1961 #8 Ferrante & Teicher "Tonight"
    1990 #7 New Kids on the Block "Tonight"(an instrumental version of the song from West Side Story)
    1987 #3 Genesis "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight"
    2008 #8 Jonas Brothers "Tonight."

  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyJust for the fun of it; these didn't make the Top 10 but still only had 'TONIGHT' in their title:
    "Tonight Tonight" by Bill Champlin {#55 in 1982}...
    "Tonight" (from West Side Story) by Eddie Fisher {#44 in 1961}
    "Tonite, Tonite" by the Mello-Kings {#77 in 1957, and then #95 when it re-entered the Top 100 in 1961}...
    And this one is close but no cigar; "Night" by Jackie Wilson {#4 in 1960}...
    Might as well throw this one into the mix; "Tonight (Could Be The Night)" by the Velvets {#26 in 1961}...
    (I love SongFacts, lots of fun).
