• Hot Chip was officially started by vocalists Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard in 2000, but the duo had actually been making music together since 1991. Taylor and Goddard were good friends while attending Elliott School in Putney, London and playing sporadic shows at school and at London pubs on occasion.
• None of the members of Hot Chip know how to drive. In 2010, guitarist Owen Clarke told prefix that the band gets around "the old fashioned way, on our own two feet."
• In 2010, Hot Chip worked on a track with Peter Gabriel from Genesis. Guitarist Al Doyle says Gabriel is a reserved but very nice person and that he makes a very good cup of tea. Doyle added that Gabriel keeps a copy of The Rough Guide to World Music in his bathroom which he found to be funny.
• Hot Chip vocalist Joe Goddard is a huge fan of Hip-Hop. His dream is to work with an old-school rapper, like Kool Keith or Q-Tip. He also loves bands like Pavement and Nirvana because of their lack of style as well as opposite artists like Björk who use face paints costume changes in their live shows whenever possible.
• In January 2008, Hot Chip vocalist Joe Goddard appeared on the popular UK comedy panel show Never Mind the Buzzcocks to promote the band's latest single "Ready for the Floor."
• In 2009, Hot Chip was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for their single "Ready for the Floor." The group lost the award to Daft Punk for their hit song "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger."
• Goddard and Taylor chose the name Hot Chip when they were 15, in the "non-name" spirit of American rock band Pavement. "I don't know if it's aged well, "Goddard laughed to Q Magazine in 2019. "We stuck with it, though."
