Songfacts®:

  • In this song, In This Moment lead singer Maria Brink seeks absolution from her sins. Religious themes often show up in her lyrics, but she's a spiritual omnivore.

"I don't follow any one specific religion," she told Outburn. "I believe in a higher light, I believe in God, I believe in science, I believe in Jesus, I believe in Mother Earth and quantum physics, so I have a very overall wide spectrum. I think it's all connected and it's all one. I used to always think that with this Lord that I couldn't believe in these other sides of myself because I was sinning or I was wrong or I was going to burn in hell."

Brink says the song is "kind of a surrendering."
  • This was the first single from Ritual, the sixth album from In This Moment. By this time, they had gotten very theatrical, with elaborate music videos that were adapted to their live performances. Maria Brink directed the video with her longtime collaborator Robert Kley; she's in her "Mother Priest" mode, presiding over a ritual, accompanied by her dancers, the "blood girls." The glowing orbs they hold in some scenes were used as props at their concerts.
  • Brink wrote this song with the band's guitarist, Chris Howorth, and with their producer, Kevin Churko. On their next album, Mother, Churko enlisted his son Kane as co-producer. Kane took over for their following album, Godmode (2023).
