Songfacts®:

  • Colombian reggaeton singer-songwriter J Balvin and British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran first met at a New York gym. They bonded over a coffee and agreed to have a studio day together, which led to more. They released he first two songs they wrote, "Sigue" and "Forever My Love," as an EP on March 24, 2022.
  • This uptempo party-starter finds Sheeran entering Balvin's reggaeton world. The title is Spanish for "Go On" and the track finds the two singers hitting on a girl.
  • Sheeran learned Spanish especially for his collaborations with Balvin. He first dabbled in Latin music with his 2017 "Shape Of You" single, which features a dembow rhythm and got a Latin remix featuring the Puerto Rican duo Zion & Lennox.

Sheeran practiced his Spanish on Camila Cabello's "Bam Bam," released a few weeks before "Sigue" and "Forever My Love." Though he mainly sings in English, Sheeran joins Cabello in the chorus singing "asi es la vida."
  • Puerto Rican producer (and frequent Balvin collaborator) Tainy supplied the island-flavored instrumentation. His production features classic reggaeton beats.
  • The video, directed by José Emilio Sagaró, shows Balvin and Sheeran partying in a luxurious hotel. Sagaró has also shot several other clips for Balvin, including "Qué Más Pues?" the Colombian's collaboration with Argentine singer María Becerra.
