Songfacts®:

  • A '90s-inspired hip-hop track with punk rock undercurrents, this bilingual song finds J-Hope wanting to accomplish "more." J-Hope's passion is his work, and he's thirsty to show his fans how much he's grown since his early days with BTS.
  • J-Hope released "More" on July 1, 2022 as the first taste of his debut solo album, Jack In The Box. It marks the first solo track released in the wake of BTS' June 14, 2022 announcement that they were temporarily suspending group activities. After nearly a decade of nonstop work, they wanted to take some time out to focus on individual projects.
  • The song is a throwback hip-hop track with rowdy rock guitars and distorted electronic sounds. An apt representation of J-Hope evolution, "More" speaks of his sonic ambitions to showcase a grungier style than BTS' K-pop anthems. "As you know, I often present myself with a sunny demeanor. So I have a strong desire to display a different side of me," he explained to Weverse Magazine. "I personally challenged myself to do that in my current projects. I wanted to show an extremely dark, raw side."
  • J-Hope wrote "More" with the song's producer, Ivan Jackson of the New Jersey production duo BrassTracks. Jackson previously worked with BTS on their 2020 BE track "Dis-ease."
  • The dark, high-concept video departs from the more vibrant imagery in BTS' visuals. Pulling themes from the Ancient Greek myth of Pandora and Salvador Dali's surrealist art, the trippy clip shows J-Hope receiving a mysterious unmarked package. It transports him to a hallway from which he moves from room to room.

Did you spot J-Hope's BTS bandmate V? ARMY did. He's one of the extras standing in the background around the 2:17 minute mark.
