Songfacts®:

  • This is the lead single from Jack Ingram's first album for seven years, Midnight Motel. He wrote the songs around midnight in and around motels across the US – hence the title.
  • Ingram explained the song's meaning to the San Antonio Express-News: "It's kind of an extension to a song I wrote a long time ago, 'Keep On Keepin' On,' about how this world is going to do its best to knock you down," Ingram said. "Good things happen, bad things happen - that's just the way it goes. Sometimes the best way to get through something is to take a break and chill out."
