Songfacts®:

  • There are many ways to write a pop song - some are meticulously crafted over months, others arrive in a flash of inspiration. And then there's "FUFN (F--k You for Now)," which came into being because Jade had a particularly vivid dream about her boyfriend, Jordan Stephens, cheating on her. She woke up furious, wrote down the concept and took the idea to Raye. They spun that nightmare into a synth-pop anthem fueled by female rage. The song, however, isn't about a full-blown breakup - more of a massive argument, the kind where you momentarily want your partner to disappear, but, crucially, only for now.
  • Jade dropped the track on March 14, 2025, after teasing it at the Brit Awards, where, during her performance, a dancer briefly mooned the audience, his backside adorned with the letters FUFN. Fendi also snapped it up for a campaign promoting its Mamma Baguette bag, proving that nothing sells high fashion quite like a well-timed expletive.
  • Written in Los Angeles with Raye and producer Dave Hamelin (whose credits include six tracks on Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter album), "FUFN" is, according to Jade, her "most straight down-the-line pop song." In an interview with Wonderland, she explained why now felt like the perfect time to release something with a massive chorus:

"I felt like now was a good time to release the big pop banger. Something with a big chorus that's a lot more melodic than some of the other songs, but still with that Jade-ness to it."
  • Naturally, there was some debate over the title. Originally just "F--k U for Now," it prompted "a lot of back and forth" with her label, RCA Records, before they reached a compromise. Hence the addition of the friendlier, radio-ready acronym FUFN.
  • The music video, directed by Lucrecia Taormina, took a single day to shoot and features actor Connor Finch as Jade's on-screen love interest. It blends reality and fantasy, mirroring the emotional chaos of a lover's betrayal.

A Buenos Aires native, Taormina moved to London's Soho to study photography, only to realize her true calling lay in filmmaking. Since then, she's built a name for herself directing videos for artists like Ashnikko and Bree Runway.
