Songfacts®:

  • This song is about an on-and-off relationship. Bugg told IHeartRadio: "I think a lot of people have experienced it when they keep going back to the same person, and then they keep breaking up with them."
  • The song was co-produced by Garret "Jacknife" Lee, who has also worked with U2, REM and Snow Patrol. The producer transformed Jake Bugg's low-key original into a stomping blues number. "I'd written it as a folk song. Then I recorded it with Jacknife and the next day I came in and it sounded like that!" Bugg told the BBC. "That can be tough. I don't want anyone messing around with my songs. But what I liked about Jacknife is [that] it was still exactly the same song, it was just in a completely different genre. It's got a Jefferson Airplane vibe about it, which I thought was pretty cool."
