Songfacts®:

  • After winning The UK version of X Factor in 2012, James Arthur struggled to deal with the limelight. The singer found himself in a dark place, suffering depression and anxiety that led to panic attacks. On top of this, Arthur made several controversial remarks on social media, which he later regretted, and parted ways with his Syco label. He felt like his dreams were over and he had no purpose in life.

Written by Arthur during that tough time, he recounts on this song how his emotional pain made him feel like he was in a train wreck.

    Unbreak the broken
    Unsay these spoken words
    Find hope in the hopeless
Pull me out the train wreck

Arthur is trying to pull himself out of his dark place and get back to where he wants to be, but cannot escape.
  • This song informed the creative direction of Arthur's redemption-themed 2016 album, Back From The Edge. The record reached #1 on the UK albums chart, sealing the singer's comeback.
  • Arthur wrote the song with:

Ex-country performer Adam Argyle, who has also worked with the likes of Melanie C ("Next Best Superstar") and Olly Murs ("Busy").

London-based singer-songwriter Andrew Jackson, who co-wrote three of the songs on Back From The Edge.
  • Four years after the release of Back From The Edge, the song found a new lease of life via Tik Tok. The track began trending on the social media platform after users fell in love with the tune and started uploading videos featuring it.

  • Anonymous from ThneedvilleThis song unleashes so many feelings a person shouldn’t have to deal with. I’m a Christian and I associated this song with God. I recently have really started to wonder what the world would be like without me in it if you know what I mean. I felt like someone needed to know that the world’s not ready for you to die, not yet. In the words of James Arthur.

All you are doing is transferring your pain to everyone around you.

He has been through way worse then me his parents left him at the age of 1 and a half months he has been moved families 3 or 4 times but then he met another family and he has been feeling better but not to the fullest and everytime he is down i call him or text him and tell him to listen to Head and Heart by Jole Corry and that gets him singing dancing and being happy. I really wish everything could just go right. This is what I think every day "I'm not ready to die not yet." I am so nice to everyone and I have gotten nothing back in return. My only purpose is to make people happy and get nothing back in return. Not even a simple thanks or thank you.
