Songfacts®:

  • Over a lazily strummed guitar, this graphic tale finds Jamie T singing of a wild child reaching rock bottom. It was inspired in part by Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett's The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas disc. Speaking with NME, Jamie praised the Australian singer-songwriter for her songwriting skills, saying: "I was listening to her record a lot when I was writing 'The Prophet'. I went to see her live and it struck me how she keeps her songs simple, but when you dig a bit deeper there's a lot of ideas."
