Songfacts®:

  • Jann Klose usually writes songs that explore a specific conflict, generally based on his own experiences, and then attempt to navigate a way out of them. He explained to us that "songwriting has always been a way for me to work through and better understand what I'm going through."

He also explained that "This Sacrifice" is "about coming out of something, like a new beginning, and leaving something behind."

The lyrics indicate that Klose is singing about moving on from a broken heart, as indicated by the chorus: "And these days will end, and the time we spent, sooner or later." The titular "Sacrifice" refers to the time he gave up for the romantic interest.
  • This was included on Klose's Sacrifice EP, a 2008 release which revolved around heartbreak. Jann said in our interview that, at times, his songwriting feels like "you fall in love, break up, write a song, fall in love, break up, write a song... over and over."
