Songfacts®:

  • This Old Boots New Dirt track finds Aldean lamenting about the realities of life on the road for a musician. "From the very beginning, we've always tried to cut great songs," he said. "Some of those songs are about promoting having a good time — driving trucks, fishing, hunting, because that's just what we do — but I would like to think that some stuff on this album is a little deeper, too."
  • Jason Aldean expanded on the song's message to Entertainment.ie: "I think you're constantly trying to be better and wanting to be better at least you should," he said. "I think a song like that is about a guy who knows what his faults are, he knows what it is, he knows what causes them. It's about trying to fix them and I think that's a relatable thing. I think we all have our flaws and I think sometimes they are easy to see. Seeing them and changing them; being a better person for it is up to us."

"I think it's a song that will hopefully make a lot of people have a gut check," Aldean continued, "and think about it and really listen to the words because it's a really cool song, very well written song and something that I think a lot of people can relate to for sure."
