Songfacts®:

  • Here, Jason Aldean finds himself killing time in "a long-lost highway town." When a girl joins him at the bar, they share a couple of rounds, and swop some stories. Their boozed up rapport leads to Aldean wishing she will "whiskey him away."
  • "Whiskey Me Away" is a play on the idiom "whisk me away." Having created a whiskey-abetted connection, Aldean wants the girl to take him away to a place where they can get more intimate.
  • "Sand In My Boots" hitmaker Morgan Wallen wrote the song alongside Rodney Clawson, Jeff Hyde and Drive Williams. Jason Aldean's regular producer Michael Knox came up with the country-rock production.
  • Aldean released the song on December 3, 2021 as the first single off Georgia, the second half of his Macon, Georgia double album.
  • Both Aldean and Wallen have form for songs about the distilled alcoholic beverage. In 2018, Aldean and Miranda Lambert's lost love lament "Drowns the Whiskey" peaked at #32 on the Hot 100. Morgan Wallen's single about drinking away the pain of a breakup, "Whiskey Glasses," was the #1 song of 2019 on the Country chart.
