Songfacts®:

  • This heartbreaker is about a guy who has everything he could possibly want, except what matters most: the woman he loves. In the song, we hear about how he screwed up and is paying the price, since he can't stop thinking about the good times. With his newfound clarity, he realizes that he was never there for her, and regrets it.
  • Jason Michael Carroll wrote this song with Pete Good, AJ Babcock and Nate Sallie. He got teamed up them after calling a friend at Curb publishing to find some collaborators. Good and Babcock clicked with Carroll and ended up co-writing most of the songs on What Color Is Your Sky with him.
  • This song was released in 2013, about 18 months before the album was issued. That's because when Carroll played it for the director Brett Bortle, they came up with a concept and decided to do a video for it. In the clip, we see Carroll is a big, empty house remembering the time he spent there and with the woman he married. At the end, he walks out of the house, perhaps for the last time.
