Songfacts®:

  • This is a revamp of an unrecorded Mraz song, which he donated to the "Be Ugly" campaign, run by the ABC sitcom Ugly Betty.
  • In this song, Mraz tells ordinary girls to "own your name and stand up tall." He was inspired to write it by noting the way all the women's beauty magazines promote their fixed version of what is considered beautiful and the influence that has on so many of his female contacts.
