Songfacts®:

  • "Body Count" finds Jessie Reyez addressing the way men and women are judged differently when the question of the number of people they've had sex with come up.

"This is almost the anti-that anthem, 'cause I'm proud of who I've had sex with, and what's the difference? I shouldn't feel shame if you don't feel shame," she told Genius. "If you can walk into a room and be like, "Yo, I just slammed this girl" and get high-fives, I should be able to walk into my room with my homegirls saying, 'I just banged this guy' and get a lot of high-fives. So, it's the anti that album and being proud of who you've had sex with."
  • The song was produced by:

Legendary producer and songwriter Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, who is best known for his contribution to the creation of new jack swing in the late 1980s.

The Rascals, who comprise Ariana Grande's former Victorious co-star Leon Thomas and his partner Chris Tines. They have produced a number of Grande's songs including four of her Yours Truly tracks and the songstress' Christmas tune "Snow In California."
  • Jessie Reyez recruited two other contemporary female pop/R&B singers, Kehlani and Normani, for the feminist anthem's remix. The three women flex their hard-earned independence, which features fresh verses by the two guest artists and retains Reyez's original hook.
