Songfacts®:

  • "Medal" is the theme song for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) competitor Kurt Angle. The song's title references both the freestyle-wrestling gold medal Angle won at the 1996 Summer Olympics and Angle's penchant for rubbing his Olympic accomplishment in other WWE wrestler's faces. Angle is what they call a "heel" in the wrestling game, meaning he intentionally plays a bad guy.

The song is instrumental with no lyrics, but when Angle walks out to it at WWE events the crowd rhythmically chants "you suck" along with the music.
  • Jim Johnston composed the song. He's done more than 15 albums for WWE and dozens if not hundreds of singles. He's usually the man brought in to create theme songs for new wrestlers.
  • Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight fighter Colby Covington has walked out to this song after personally asking Angle for permission. Covington also plays the heel role, though in mixed martial arts rather than in wrestling.
