Songfacts®:

  • "Like Crazy" is a cool synthpop jam that mixes '80s vibes with modern beats. Jimin's sweet voice really brings it to life, singing about feeling lonely and searching for something deeper. He meets a girl in a club but worries about the aftermath of surrendering to his emotions "like crazy" and losing all inhibitions.
  • According to Jimin's interview with Rolling Stone, the song has "a feeling of dreamy intoxication" and "feels happy," but there's also an underlying feeling of loneliness. You can see this in lyrics like "I'd rather be lost in the lights, I'm outta my mind" and "I wanna stay in this dream, don't save me."
  • The track's title is a shout-out to the 2011 movie Like Crazy, about a couple struggling to make it work despite distance and visa problems. Even though the song isn't directly about that, it still has that same intense longing.
  • The track ends with whispers from the movie's fraught lovers. Like Crazy also inspired the voice-over intro at the start, but this time it is original dialogue made for the song.
  • Jimin wrote "Like Crazy" with help from BTS member RM. Regular BTS producer Pdogg helmed the track with GHSTLOOP.
  • Jimin recorded "Like Crazy" for his solo debut album, Face, in both Korean and English versions. According to Jimin, the English version of the song brings a different charm to the original while maintaining its authentic essence. He said the lyrics he wrote in English convey the song's message best.
  • Jimin stumbled upon the Like Crazy movie through a mashup video on YouTube. When they were brainstorming for the main track of his album, the film popped into his head, and he felt like it would be a perfect fit. So, Jimin rewatched it and took inspiration from different parts to incorporate into the lyrics.
  • The video is full of dance-floor energy, as we see Jimin partying in a crowded nightclub. Oui Kim directed the visual; he also shot the clip for Face's lead single, "Set Me Free Pt.2."
  • The physical album includes a 10-minute track of the English version, which comprises two minutes and 45 seconds of empty space after the song's end, followed by a hidden track called "Letter." The latter features background vocals by Jimin's fellow BTS member, Jungkook, and begins at the 6:13 mark.
  • "Like Crazy" debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 for the chart dated April 8, 2023. This makes Jimin the first South Korean solo artist to reach the top spot, beating out PSY's "Gangnam Style," which made it to #2 in 2012. And get this, it's also Jimin's seventh time at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100! He's already crushed it six times with BTS from 2020 to 2021.
