Songfacts®:

  • "Flower" appears on Jisoo's debut solo album, Me, which also features the song "All Eyes On Me." When Jisoo released Me on March 31, 2023, she became the fourth and final member of Blackpink to drop solo music.
  • "Flower" is a breakup song about a relationship that didn't work out. The lyrics capture Jisoo's conflicting feelings: introspection about her role in the situation and the pain of realizing that her partner couldn't meet her needs.

Crimsonly burned down you and I
I'm okay, would you be as well?
On a beautiful day without a single cloud
There was nothing left but the scent of a flower

By comparing herself to a flower, Jisoo highlights her vulnerability and beauty while emphasizing the need for protection and care that is often required when dealing with such a delicate entity. Just as a flower needs the right conditions to thrive, a relationship also requires the right partner and circumstances to flourish.
  • Vince, Teddy Park, Kush, and VVN wrote the song, while the latter two, alongside 24, handled the snappy, trappy production. All five contributed to Blackpink's 2022 Born Pink album.

"I chose 'Flower' as the title song because it is a song that expresses me the best, with a perfect harmony in all aspects, from vocals to performance to visual elements," said Jisoo. "From the first time I heard the demo in the studio, something came to me like fate. It's a dance song, but the lyrics are lyrical, so it has an unexpected charm, and the hook part is very addictive."
  • The music video for "Flower" finds Jisoo wearing different floral outfits. We see her lounging in a luxury hotel suite, dancing alone in a glamorous ballroom, and walking through the streets of New York City.

"It was an all-location in the US, but I remember a lot from the set on the streets of Universal Studios New York," recalled Jisoo. "Filming in an empty street made me feel like I was in the world of The Truman Show."
