Songfacts®:

  • Jody Watley teamed with André Cymone to write "Still A Thrill," the second single from her debut album, following "Looking For A New Love." If you're picking up a Prince vibe, that's because Cymone used to work with him, as did his co-producer on the track, David Z. The song finds Watley in thrall with her lover even though time has passed since they first found the spark. He's still a thrill.
  • The song was just a minor hit, but Watley's next single, "Don't You Want Me," was big, going to #6 in the US. She ended up winning the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
  • Brian Grant directed the video, which was shot at the Paris Opera House and features a style of dance called waacking, a cousin to vogueing. It was big in the Black and Latin gay clubs on the East Coast.

Watley was a Soul Train dancer before starting her music career, and at one point was in a troupe with Tyrone Proctor, another former Soul Train dancer who is her partner in the video. He was an innovator in the waacking style.
