Songfacts®:

  • Dr. Joe wants to fix your broken heart on this track, which was written by Jeff Trott, Victoria Horn, and Steve McMorran. The trio got together at a writing camp held by the album's producer, Matt Serletic. Trott explained in a Songfacts interview: "He'll basically collect eight to ten writers that he really likes, that are from different genres, and have different skill sets. Then, he'll just have you write with one group of people for about three hours, and he switches you over to another group and you're with them."

Trott hit his stride when he landed with Horn and McMorran. "The three of us got together, and we started writing this one song, and it was pretty good. I started playing around with this other theme on the piano, and it turned into a completely different song called 'I'll Be Your Doctor.'"
