  • This Steve Moakler and Connie Harrington penned love song finds Nichols singing about how "love has a way of outliving everything." The track is a traditional country song that harks back to Nichols' early material.

"The chasing of the current sound on the radio, I wouldn't say it's getting old, but I would say we weren't in it for the right reason," the singer told Taste of Country. "So rather than chase what's popular... why not get back to what brought me to dinner. The nostalgia of traditional country music is important."
  • Nichols told The Boot he was excited to find the song and explained how he made it his own.

"I wanted to desperately find something that was, you know, Shenandoah's 'Next to You, Next to Me' - a throwback, Randy Travis, foot-tapping type of thing, you know? Don Williams even a little bit - just something along that line: feels good, doesn't have to be explosive, doesn't have to be making a statement or anything, just has to feel good and [have] a good sentiment.

When I heard 'Never Gets Old,' I was very grateful, because it's something you don't find very often when you specifically ask for something... [but the song has changed from the demo] quite a bit. I think there's more folk-y [elements] on the demo, and I think it's done well, but I think we kind of made it more of a - more me."
  • Though Nichols was keen to cut the song, he needed a certain lady to give her okay first. "I was nervous about playing that one for my wife, Heather, the singer recalled to Billboard magazine. "I remember that we were at Target, and I put the song on. About halfway through the first verse, she says 'I like it.' So, we decided that would be a good one. She's usually the bar on what we cut. She's usually got a good ear for that kind of stuff, so I'm glad she likes it."
  • Nichols decided to name his ninth studio long player after this song. He said: "It is the album title, yeah. I think we're implying that I never get old - maybe sarcastically, I don't know."
