Songfacts®:

  • This is a track from Call the Comet, Johnny Marr's first album for four years. The normally prolific musician explained to Mojo why there was such an unusually long gap between releases.

"I went from touring to writing the autobiography (Set the Boy Free 2016) which meant a lot of immersion in my own mind and my life story, and I did a lot of promotion for it. Which was quite intrusive. So I needed to make a record for my own emotional safe. I was in a pretty precarious place. I think. The song Walk Into the Sea is quite a strong metaphor for trying to find some kind of rebirth, really."
  • The colors in the song's music video reflect its aquatic theme and possibly the color of Marr's favorite football team, Manchester City.

  • Britgirl from ItalyFor me, the best song of the album.
  • Eric from Eugene, OrThis song makes me think of the film Dinner with Beatrice. Beatrice is an idealist but in the course of an evening with very wealthy and very awful people she becomes disillusioned and kills herself by literally walking into the sea. Great film, but super downer. That said, I love this song. Very powerful.
