Songfacts®:

  • Jon Pardi wrote this poignant ode to lost loved ones with Bart Butler and Jeffrey Steele back in 2014. He recorded it five years later for his Heartache Meditation album.
  • The track finds Pardi reflecting on how the departed may not be physically here, but still are with us in spirit.

    No matter where I go
    Never too far from home
I've got you shining down on me

Pardi explained to Taste of Country: "We wanted it to be like real upbeat and lifting to where you listen and you remember happy thoughts. You kind of feel like they're around with you."
  • Pardi told Billboard he wrote the song with his grandmother in mind. It was his nan who got him started in music, and she passed away when he was 14. He added: "She never really got to see any of this, but she would have loved it."
  • "Starlight" found new life after a buddy of Pardi's committed suicide. The singer couldn't make the funeral because he was on the road, so he sent his pal's family a video message and a recording of the song. After learning of the impact it made at his funeral, Pardi recorded it for Heartache Meditation.
