Songfacts®:

  • Jonas Brothers released this soaring song, which they wrote with Jon Bellion, as the lead single from their sixth studio album, titled The Album, on February 24, 2023.

Singer-songwriter and producer Bellion's other credits include Maroon 5's "Memories," Miley Cyrus' "Midnight Sky," and Justin Bieber's "Holy."
  • For "Wings," Jon Bellion blends his hip-hop influenced pop style with the Jonas Brothers' pop-rock, creating an energetic jazz-pop tune with hints of electronic dance music.
  • At 1:58, "Wings" certainly doesn't outstay its welcome. "It might be the shortest song on the album, but I like it because it feels like a trailer to the rest of the body of work," said Joe Jonas. "There's a lot more acoustic guitar and real organic instruments that tap into a bunch of different influences, but we're aware of the fact that we're not a country act. Jon Bellion flipped it on its head - he's got a modern edge to everything he does, even if it has really classic elements."
  • Critics compared the Jonas' chill-inducing harmonies on the song to those of The Bee Gees. "They were a huge influence in our lives, growing up and listening to them with our father," Kevin Jonas said of the three Gibb brothers. "And obviously, as we grew up being three brothers in a band, we definitely understood similarities."
  • Lyrically, the song is standard fare as the Jonas Brothers credit their wives for making their lives better and helping them to be themselves. They proclaim they are their "light of day" and "the wings" that enable them to fly away.
  • In the music video, four girls dance and lip-synch to the song before their elevator opens and the Jonas Brothers are inside. They get a case of the giggles and miss an opportunity to share the elevator.

The lead dancer is Haley Lu Richardson, an actress who played Portia, a neurotic Gen Z assistant, on the second season of White Lotus. Richardson is a trained dancer and a huge Jonas Brothers fan, so this was a dream come true. She says one reason she got into acting was in hopes that she would someday meet the group.
