Songfacts®:

  • This single was released on Julian Lennon's birthday, April 8, 2013, digitally via iTunes. The track also appears as a bonus track on the international release of Everything Changes. Said the singer: "2013 highlights another year of inspiration for me, in regards to my music, photography and philanthropy work, and 'Someday' is a reflection of that."
  • The song is a collaboration with Steven Tyler. The Aerosmith vocalist explained to the London Evening Standard that the hook-up came about after Lennon heard him sing in the shower. "A lot of stuff happens in L.A. We were staying at a hotel where Julian Lennon was staying, and one morning I was singing in the shower. The window was open, and I just heard, 'Steven?' We brought him over to the studio and he sang on the opening track," he said.

Lennon and Tyler also collaborated on the Aerosmith track, "LUV XXX."
  • In our 2014 interview with Julian Lennon, he talked about writing this song with Tyler: "Time was tight, but we managed to sit in a room for two hours and just throw everything up against the wall and ask ourselves, 'Well, what do we want to talk about?' Well, we wanted a different take on one of my oldest songs, 'Saltwater,' but in a slightly more positive or slightly more hopeful mood. Something that you could tap your feet to a bit more than 'Saltwater.'

And from that and that alone, the song was born. It was just a question of having something that we could all relate to that we all believed in and all looked forward to: the fact that there may be some change in the future for the positive."
