Songfacts®:

  • "Standing Next to You" was released on November 3, 2023, as the third single from Jungkook's debut solo album, Golden. It finds Jungkook celebrating the power of being by his sweetheart's side. Their connection is electric, every moment cherished. His love is unbreakable, standing strong against any challenge or hardship.
  • Several of the song's lyrics call back previous songs Jungkook sang on:

How we left and right is somethin' we control

This references his collaboration with Charlie Puth, "Left And Right."

    When it's deep like DNA

This points to BTS' 2017 single "DNA," their first international hit.

    Afterglow
Leave ya body golden like the sun and the moon

This references a lyric on Jungkook's solo hit "Seven"

Of Wind it back, I'll take it slow
    Leave you with that afterglow

It also namechecks the album title.
  • "Standing Next to You" marks Jungkook's second collaboration with songwriter Jon Bellion and producers Andrew Watt and Cirkut, following their previous work on "Seven." Songwriter Ali Tamposi, a frequent collaborator with Andrew Watt, also contributed to the track.
  • Out of the 11 songs on Golden, Jungkook believes that his BTS ARMY fans will gravitate most to "Standing Next to You."

"The song itself is great, and as soon as I heard the song, I could picture myself on stage performing [it]," the K-pop idol told British GQ. "The recording process was not easy, so it's particularly memorable, too. It was so tiring that I did feel my soul almost leaving my body, but the process in itself was extremely fun. I think this will also be the one song ARMY are most amazed by."
  • In the song's music video, Jungkook pursues a mysterious femme fatale portrayed by Ukrainian model Pasha Harulia. The visual also showcases the BTS singer's intricate choreography against a backdrop of gilded sets.
  • Why did Jungkook title his debut album Golden? He told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show it's because he's the "golden youngest" in BTS, a nickname coined by bandmate RM.
  • Jungkook teamed up with Usher for a remix of "Standing Next to You." Released on December 1, 2023, the new version features a fresh verse by Usher as well as additional vocals from the American singer in the chorus. Usher included the remix on his 2024 album Coming Home.
  • The music video for the Jungkook and Usher remix is staged in a deserted warehouse. It kicks off with Jungkook taking center stage, delivering a solo performance with a group of dancers as his support. The scene then shifts to Usher, exhibiting impressive footwork on his own before the two join forces for a dynamic dance break.
