Songfacts®:

  • Princess Beatrice, the daughter of the Queen of England's son Andrew, inspired the first song that The Darkness frontman, Justin Hawkins, ever wrote. He recalled to Kerrang!: "It was inspired a lot by Tango in the Night era Fleetwood Mac. It sounded like one song in particular that went, 'Caroliiiiiine.' The lyrical structure was lifted from that, so I sang about a girl that likes hats and stuff. But I didn't know who it was going to be about, and Princess Beatrice had just been born. It was a name in my head. So it made sense to write it about the newly born princess."
