Songfacts®:

  • K. Michelle mixes up the genres of music on her Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart? album. This song is a country tune. "I want people to know that I don't f--k around with music," she told The Idolator. "You don't have to like me, but you're going to respect me as an artist."
  • Michelle went back to one of her first inspirations for this song. "My first voice teacher told my mom, 'People will expect her to sing a certain kind of music, but I want her to try other things'. So, he got me to sing country and yodeling," she recalled. "It's a big part of who I am. The first tape I ever got was The Judds' 'Love Can Build a Bridge.' I learned storytelling from that style, and my vocal runs definitely owe something to it."
  • Michelle explained the song's meaning: "It's just saying, 'God, I get it. I know I do wrong. I know you're trying to help me and send me signs. I have to do better.'"
