Songfacts®:

  • The title track of Kacey Musgrave's fourth album, she decided to name the album after this song as it was recorded during an especially happy time in her personal life. The singer married fellow musician Ruston Kelly on October 14, 2017 in Tennessee and she's basking in his glow. Musgraves explained:

"Golden Hour just seemed to sum up this chapter of my life perfectly. I mean not only am I from a town called Golden, Texas, but leading up to making this record, there's been a lot of beauty in my atmosphere and in my world. I love the picture that pops in my head when I hear that title. It's also an actual song on the record, but it's just this warm, golden feeling that I'm really happy to have in my life, and I found it to be the perfect title for this record."
  • Musgraves told Entertainment Weekly that the album title was inspired in part by experiencing the total solar eclipse that crossed the US on August 21, 2017.

"It felt like this majestic time where God was saying, 'This is a moment to be present for, to witness and relish in the beauty of this incredible world,'" she explained. "That was important for me to include on this record. It's such an ugly time right now with society and politics, and it could be easy to focus on that. But one thing we could use is a little more love and positivity and pretty colors."
