• Musgraves performed the stripped down ballad during the 2018 C2C: Country to Country Festival in the U.K. and Ireland over the March 10-11, 2018 weekend. Sharing a clip of her performance on social media, the songstress said her grandmother was a fan of the song.
  
  "I love this song so much. Was my Memaw's favorite before she passed and we played it at her funeral. It's for anyone with any kind of weight on their shoulders."
• Originally penned by Musgraves as an encouraging note for herself after reading her horoscope, this was the final song the singer's grandmother heard her write and was performed at her funeral.
  
  "For a long time, that was a really hard one to hear, but I thought that it fit really nicely on the record," Musgraves told Taste of Country. "It turned into a song as a little message to myself, and then ended up being a song for anybody with any kind of weight on their shoulders."
• The song was recorded live. "Every night in the studio, we would end the session with turning all the lights off and just sitting by the piano and recording a live version of 'Rainbow,'" Musgraves explained. "It's very vulnerable as a singer to commit to showing a live track because there's no fixing it. Everyone sees what your capabilities are right then and there."
  
  Having laid down a number of versions, Musgraves selected the best rendition for the album.
• Musgraves performed this at the Grammy Awards in 2019, where Golden Hour won for Album Of The Year.
• The artistic video features Kacey Musgraves in the role of a guardian angel. We see her watching over a group of people who are going through tough times: an exhausted new mom, a young man struggling with his identity, and a man suffering from alcoholism among them.
• The video was directed Hannah Lux Davis, who also shot the clip for Musgraves' "High Horse" in 2018.
  
  "The song was so gentle, and I knew I wanted the visual to be," Davis told Billboard. "It felt like a painting."
• The song won Music Video of the Year at the 2019 CMA Awards. Musgraves also took home the Female Artist of the Year trophy from the ceremony.
• Homemade drawings of rainbows popped up during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 to provide hope and thank the many essential workers who couldn't shelter in place. This song took on new meaning during this time, and Musgraves embraced it; she performed it during the One World: Together at Home Concert on April 18, 2020.
