Songfacts®:

  • "Thank God" is a loving folk-pop duet between Kane Brown and his wife Katelyn. Both singers express their gratitude to the Almighty for bringing their other halves into their lives. "I keep telling everybody she's my secret weapon," Brown told Apple Music. "But this song is just like us, you know? I feel like it's any relationship song, or anybody that's married or going to get married, that just knows it's like, 'God put you in my life for a reason.'"
  • Katelyn Brown is a singer herself. She previously recorded pop songs under the name Katelyn Jae, including 2014's "24KT." Four years later, she laid down the duet 'You & I" with Los Angeles-based producer and songwriter Highlnd. Katelyn graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2019 with a degree in Music Business. "She doesn't want to be an artist - she just loves singing," Brown told Billboard. "She's always singing around the house and her voice is beautiful."
  • Josh Hoge from Brown's Verse 2 publishing company wrote "Thank God" with Christian Stalnecker, Jared Mullins, Jaxson Free, and Kyle Fishman. The Browns had been looking for a potential duet and went through about five of them before Hoge gave them this song. It was supposed to be a solo number, but the country star changed it to a duet and Katelyn fell in love with the tune.
  • Kane Brown's 2017 single "Heaven" has a similar theme of thankfulness for a romantic partner sent from above. Brown also uses devotional language to express his love for his wife and daughter in his 2020 track "Worship You."
  • Directed by Alex Alvga, the video finds Kane and Katelyn Brown enjoying the Hawaiian scenery. Filmed over two days in Oahu, the two singers came up with the original idea. "They wanted tropical, beach vibes for the video," Alvga told Billboard. "They have a beautiful family with two kids and are so young and amazing together. When you see them and spend time with them backstage, you can see that connection. I felt like the best way to do this was to show them just having fun and letting them be them."

Alvga is Kane Brown's go-to visual collaborator, dating back to his 2017 clip for "Heaven."
  • Kane and Katelyn Brown performed the song live together for the first time during the country star's December 1, 2022 concert in Ottawa, Canada.
  • Kane and Katelyn Brown won Video of the Year at the 2023 CMT Music Awards for "Thank God." In their acceptance speech, Kane said he was "so grateful" to be able to share his music with the world, and Katelyn added she was "so proud" to be married to such an amazing man.
  • The song is the basis of the 2025 Lifetime holiday movie Thank God: Christmas At Keller Ranch, starring Tyler Hilton as a hockey star whose injury leads him to love. Kane and Katelyn Brown are executive producers on the film.
  • When "Thank God" topped the Country Airplay chart it became the second duet by a married couple to reach #1 on the listing, following Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's "It's Your Love" in 1997.
