Songfacts®:

  • A whiskey sour is a mixed drink containing whiskey, lemon juice, sugar, and egg white. During this breakup ballad, a lonesome Kane Brown is sipping his whiskey-based cocktail as he tries to drown the memory of a quickly dissolved marriage.
  • Throughout the song, Brown recounts the tale of the ill-fated relationship. From his ex ordering him a whiskey sour and saying she loves him, to their split just a month after their wedding, the track tells a heartbreaking story. Melancholic banjo, acoustic guitar and fiddle anchor Brown's vocals.
  • Adam Craig, Jaxson Free and Josh Hoge wrote the song. When the happily married Brown first heard "Whiskey Sour," he related to the lyrics through the experiences of those around him. "The story behind the song is kind of weird for me," he said. "All my friends are really going through a depressing time with relationships. So when I heard this song for the first time, it really resonated with me just because the people around me and that's why I fell in love with the song so much."
  • Kane Brown co-produced the song with guitarist Ilya Toshinsky. It marked the country star's production debut.
  • Alex Alvga directed the video, filming it with a single camera in one take. The camera circles Brown and a group of players that includes Runaway June's Natalie Stovall playing fiddle.
