Songfacts®:

  • "Contigo" (Spanish for "with you") is a Latin dance track imbued with longing, which takes us on a journey through Karol G's shattered heart. It's a song dedicated to a departed love, an enigmatic figure who left an indelible mark on her soul.
  • The chorus, a gut-wrenching cry, echoes the song's core: "No quiero vida si no es contigo" ("I don't want life if it's not with you"). It's a desperate plea, a stark portrayal of the unbearable pain of existing without him.

Her desperate attempts to reach out, to bridge the chasm of silence, only amplify the emptiness. Karol G grapples with the immensity of his absence, the weight of their shared past an anchor dragging her down.
  • The song interpolates on the chorus Leona Lewis' 2007 worldwide hit "Bleeding Love," another anthem of pain and enduring affection. While "Bleeding Love" bleeds raw emotion, with Lewis admitting to a love everyone warns her against, "Contigo" bleeds memories, echoing moments that refuse to fade.
  • Karol G co-wrote "Contigo" with the song's producer, Tiësto. This is the Colombian superstar's third time collaborating with Tiësto, following the Dutch producer's 2021 single "Don't Be Shy" and "Provenza remix," part of Karol G's 2023 Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season) album.
  • "Bleeding Love" writer Ryan Tedder gets a songwriting credit. Tedder co-wrote Tiësto's 2022 single with Tate McRae, "10:35."
  • The music video shows Karol G's support for the LGBTQ+ community by sharing the screen with the openly lesbian Puerto Rican artist Young Miko. They play video games, shower, and dance (perreando) side by side.
