Songfacts®:

  • Kasabian frontman Serge Pizzorno originally wrote this stripped-back piano ballad as an in-joke with bassist Chris Edwards about a hangover. "It's about hitting the wall," Pizzorno explained to Radio X. "A monumental touring hangover in the hotel room. Me and Chris will be on the phone, usually about 3 p.m., saying mate, I've hit the biggest wall. I wrote it to try and make him laugh because it's a beautiful song!"
  • Having begun life as an in-joke about overcoming a hangover, the defiant song evolved into an ode to not giving up. Pizzorno chants the refrain:

    You get back up
    You get back up again
    You get back up
You know we always get here
  • After England beat Germany 2-1 at the Women's Euro 2022 football final, the BBC ended their coverage with this song. The broadcaster spliced a performance of "The Wall" with highlights from the tournament.
