Songfacts®:

  • This song was written by Keane's Tim Rice-Oxley about an incident that happened back in 2014 shortly after his marriage ended. After knocking back several pints during a leaving party for his local pub landlord, Rice-Oxley stupidly got into his car and started driving it home. The Keane keyboardist's car ended up in a ditch just up the road, and when the police arrived they found he was nearly three times the drink-drive limit.

Rice-Oxley was arrested, spent a few hours in prison and subsequently was banned from driving for two years. He told Apple Music the song is "a gentle and sympathetic way of expressing what can happen in someone's mind to lead them to make terrible decisions."
