Songfacts®:

  • Food has been a running theme for Kelis since her 2003 hit single "Milkshake." A graduate from the prestigious culinary school Le Cordon Bleu, when the singer found herself without a label to provide necessary funding in 2010, she offered to pay producers with home-cooked meals at her in-home studio.

Six songs on Kelis' Food album, have culinary-themed titles. However, the songstress told Rolling Stone that rather than food being on her mind when she was writing her lyrics, they were just place-holders. "Zef, who's the engineer, was just there all the time, part of the family, so by the end of the night everyone is exhausted, and he'd put something in the computer – 'Biscuits n' Gravy' – just so I'd remember what it's called," she explained. "When it came time to change the titles, it just seemed like they were as good as any others."
