Songfacts®:

  • Clarkson wrote this song in 2005 about an ex-boyfriend. The lyrics are quite hateful toward him and the girl he is seeing, as Clarkson calls her a "trophy wife" and hoping her finger turns green from the ring. Although his new girlfriend is naive enough to trust him, she's lost her trust in him completely. >>>

  • In an interview with MTV News, Kelly Clarkson said, "I had somebody at my label say they didn't like it because it was too Pat Benatar. I was like, 'Now I really like it! I love her, and what's wrong with you?'"
  • David Kahne produced this track. He also worked on Paul McCartney's 2007 album Memory Almost Full. >>>

  • Though this song tells of a relationship gone sour, the subject matter is not necessarily what the listener may think. Clarkson explained on her record label's website: "It's not really a boyfriend-girlfriend thing. It's more about trusting and putting your faith in someone and getting let down."
  • Joseph Kahn, who also helmed the clips for Clarkson's "Walk Away," "Already Gone" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes," directed the music video. The plot follows Clarkson's ex-husband (played by Dominic Figlio) who drowns her in a bathtub, then goes to meet his mistress at the airport. On the way, he's haunted by visions of Clarkson. The clip was shot at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

  • Steph from Commack, Nyomg i luv the video too! just her eyeliner is a lil messed up lol. its so catchy amazing song!!
  • Landon from Winchester, OhKelly Clarkson has a way of blending rock with pop lyrics, which has lead me to become a fan of her music. This song sounds like a really big slap in the face at her ex-boyfriend, and it hits at him just hard enough; not like the over-kill in her single "Since U Been Gone". I really think this song should have appeared on the radio stations more.
  • Amanda from Evergreen, CoI really really love her and i think she deserves everything she's earned!!!!
  • Meaghan from Spring City, PaI feel like this song, and this album in general, is Kelly's Alanis Morissette moment, albeit slightly more mainstream. It's deeper, harsher, and infinitely more emotional.
  • Dj from Winchester, VaMan I love this song. The video is awesome and the singing is great.
