  • This mid-tempo tune finds Kenny Chesney urging listeners to find a way to live peacefully and in harmony with others. Chesney said:

"Some days, it's like the world is just angry, screaming people. All harping on what's wrong, how other people are awful. The more I move around, talking to people, though, the more I know people are seeking the same things, working hard to get by and hoping for the best for their family and friends. It's simple, but we keep getting driven apart - and made unhappy."
  • "Get Along" was written by Shane McAnally, Ross Copperman and Josh Osborne. Chesney said:

"When I heard this song, beyond how good the rhythm felt, I was amazed how simply they broke all this stuff down. Get along... find the common ground... know the basic stuff is where the joy, the love, the happiness is."
  • Osborne recalled to Taste of Country that McAnally had the song title and the desire to write something "organic" and "rootsy," which him and Copperman then helped him develop.

"We were like, 'What if it was this list that while you're living, you do all these things, and then trying to wrap it with, can't we all get along?'" he explained. "We felt like we had tapped into something and thought there's a cool, bigger idea here."
  • Rather than attempting to write a "message" song about the state of the world, the three songwriters talk about unity among the divisiveness.

"I don't think we were making a conscious decision to write it 'about' the world, but I think the way the world is right now, it's in all of our subconscious and we're all feeling it," Osborne acknowledged. "We weren't trying to write a song that did that, but it was something that was on our hearts. So much of songwriting is therapy, and I think we were just trying to get it out of us and onto the page so it would hopefully translate to other people."
  • The song was written shortly after Chesney's Cosmic Hallelujah was released in October 2016. The writers held it until the singer was ready to record his next project. "I said to Shane and Ross, 'The second Kenny's looking again, we've got to send this song to him.' It just reminded me of him and his life and his look at the world," Osborne recalled.
