  • I swear to God, I closed my eyes
I heard a voice inside my mind
The universe said, "Now's your time"
    And told me everything's alright

Kesha wrote this slow-burning meditative track the night after a momentous spiritual and existential breakthrough in the pandemic panic of spring 2020. As she teetered on the brink of a panic attack, her cat, Mr. Peeps, delivered her headphones, and Kesha took it as a sign to meditate. The experience was intense, beautiful, and frightening as she felt a profound connection with her highest self or God.

"I thought I was losing it, but it was a spiritual awakening," Kesha told Rolling Stone. Kesha reached out to her therapist and doctor, who confirmed her awakening and applauded her courage.
  • You said, "Don't ever eat the acid if
You don't wanna be changed like it changed me"
You said, "All the edges got so jagged now
Everything you saw then can't be unseen"

When Kesha was much younger, her mother, songwriter Pebe Sebert, warned her daughter not to take acid. "She told me how she had taken some as a teen and it had shown her so much... too much," Kesha explained to Nylon. "I made it a point to never, ever touch it. I still haven't. I didn't want to see it all. I wanted to live blissfully unaware and happy. I want to be a house cat."
  • Kesha released "Eat the Acid" on April 28, 2023, along with "Fine Line." The two tracks are the lead singles from her fifth studio album, Gag Order, which delves into Kesha's struggles during her high profile legal battle with producer Dr. Luke.
  • Kesha wrote "Eat The Acid" with Pebe Sebert and their regular songwriting collaborator, Stuart Crichton. Kesha and Crichton co-produced the track with Gag Order executive producer Rick Rubin.
