Songfacts®:

  • This rumination on loss and identity finds Jonathan Davis reflecting on grief.

It walks with me, it takes its time
It sinks its teeth in one at a time
It loves to feed, it loves my past
It's always taunting but somehow out of grasp

Davis personifies grief as a ghost-like child.
  • "Can You Hear Me" was originally a solo song demoed by Davis in 2015. The Korn singer's bandmates, and producer Nick Raskulinecz, transformed the tune into an eerie EDM-influenced track. Lyrically, it took on a new meaning in the wake of the death of Jonathan Davis' estranged wife Deven in August 2018.

Davis told Kerrang: "That was originally one of my solo songs, but the band took it – just like Take Me on the last record was one of my solo songs. Nick loved that song, and the band went back and did it and I really liked how it came out. That's one of the songs with 20-something vocals on it. There's so many harmonies that it's like ABBA or some s--t. I love it."
  • The intense video was filmed and directed by Adam Mason. The eerie clip focuses on a woman seemingly being stalked through her smartphone.
