Songfacts®:

  • Kristy Lee Cook's first single after signing to Broken Bow Records was inspired by the singer's father, who wrote poems about his experiences serving in the Army during the Vietnam War. "We took lines directly from the poems and put them into the song," Kristy told The Boot. "I wouldn't have written the song if my dad hadn't written those poems, because he doesn't really talk about much. The cool thing is that it gives perspective to someone who doesn't know what it's like to know how they feel and what they're experiencing. It was really important for us to make sure it was right, and exactly what they would say."
  • Cook told FOX411 Country: "Singing a song about men and women that have fought and served for our country and those who have lost their lives for us is very emotional – and I'm not an emotional person but there is a soft spot in my heart for our soldiers. I feel very privileged to be able to sing something for them in return for their sacrifice for me."
  • Roman White directed the song's music video, which serves as a tribute to those who have served in the U.S. military as well as their loved ones.
