Songfacts®:

  • During an interview with M Is For Music, Tunstall said this is her favorite track from Tiger Suit. She explained why: "Difficulty is my favourite just because it's such a vulnerable moment for me on the record. It's got a real euphoric power to it as well, and it could have just easily been a really regular Pop song and we decided to not do that and just follow our impulses on making it something much more experimental. That's were the Cocteau Twins influence started really, with 'Difficulty.' To me it just sounds like you're standing on the edge of the cliff and you're looking at this amazing view and its quite frightening. It's really easy in a song to have that moment where you jump off the cliff and it goes mental and in 'Difficulty' it never happens. You never quite fall of the cliff. That's what it's about, keeping that feeling of anticipation."
