Songfacts®:

  • The Kursaal Flyers were one of several bands from South Essex that had some commercial success in the late 1970s as part of the pub rock movement. Other successful bands from the area included Dr Feelgood and Eddie and the Hot Rods. This piece of melodic orchestrated pop was their only UK hit.
  • The producer/songwriter Mike Batt wrote this song and gave it a Phil Spector like over the top production. At the time Batt was best known for penning a number of hit singles for the children's TV characters, The Wombles, which were mainly pastiches of different musical styles. Singer Paul Shuttleworth told Mojo magazine March 2009 about their collaboration: "We liked R&B and (drummer) Will Birch used to write these quirky lyrics, and (guitarist) Graham Douglas had a very catholic style. So we ended up with a very eclectic set, lots of blues, soul and country. Rightly or wrongly, we tried to increase the range of styles of the music. That's what we loved when we came across Mike Batt. Every song he wrote was a pastiche of a different style. And he always got it right."

  • Phil B from London, UkJust a little thing. She wasn't in the corner - she was in the coin-op; the coin operated laundrette or laundromat.
  • Peter from Birmingham, United KingdomJust to clarify the fact that 'Little Does She Know' was composed by band members Paul Shuttleworth/Will Birch & Graham Douglas not Mike Batt as alluded to above.
  • Zabadak from London, EnglandVirtually all of Mike Batt's work ended up on CBS (the UK version of the stateside label known as Columbia over there). This was no exception. What gets me is why this song, as good as it is, was included on the Rockabilly Revival two-CD set!
