Songfacts®:

  • Kylie Minogue is looking for more than a sexual relationship in this track, written by Mike Stock and Pete Waterman (members of the songwriting/production trio Stock Aitken Waterman, who also produced the album). The song has Minogue asking, "But what is love without the finer feelings?"
  • This was intended to be the album's second single, following "Word Is Out," but was held back and remixed by the dance music/techno duo Brothers in Rhythm before its April 1992 release.
  • Although this was her first single to not chart in her homeland of Australia's Top 50, it remains a fan favorite during live performances.
  • Celebrating her 25th anniversary in the music business, Minogue recorded an acoustic version of this at Abbey Road Studios for the occasion in 2012.
  • Minogue enlisted veteran music video director David Hogan to direct the cinematic black-and-white clip, which has the singer watching a lover from afar on the streets of Paris. Hogan, who also directed Minogue's "What Do I Have To Do?" and "Shocked," said the '40s-style video was inspired by French Impressionist photography. In our interview with David Hogan, the director explained what it was like to work with the star in Paris: "She's huge there, so she draws a crowd like it's the biggest star in Paris. If the word gets out that she's there, they just swarm the set. They love her there, and for good reason. She's a sweetheart."
