Songfacts®:

  • This paean to masturbation was written by Lady Gaga with Beck. It morphed from an unplugged Beck song into classic Gaga dance tune with a hip-swivelling Caribbean groove. The collaboration came about when producer Mark Ronson ran into Beck and invited him to the studio.

"For Gaga, it was like meeting her idol," Ronson told Rolling Stone. "Beck is pretty much her favorite influential artist of the past 20 years. She was a fan girl at first."
  • Gaga told Elvis Duran of New York's Z100 of her get together with Beck: "We just hung out for an hour talking in Malibu talking, just shooting the breeze."

Gaga then invited Beck to jam with her, which resulted in this song.
  • Beck recalled his collaboration with Lady Gaga during an interview with UK newspaper, The Sun.

"I just came in and threw a bunch of ideas together. The thing we did felt like late Sixties Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks. Acoustic and a bit gritty.

We had a whole day singing, drinking and smoking, then she made this huge Italian feast. All the while she is on 10-inch heels! I don't know if I've met anyone quite like her."
