Songfacts®:

  • This song finds Lana Del Rey singing of a girl hitting the clubs late at night looking to score:

Club queen on the downtown scene
    Prowling around at midnight

It has been speculated that the song is about Del Rey's close friend, Azealia Banks, who is known as a New York City club queen. However the singer denied emphatically this is the case to NME: "I have no idea where people got that from," she said. "I just don't know what the correlation is. That song is actually about a group of teenagers who go out every night."
  • You're so Art Deco, out on the floor
Shining like gunmetal, cold and unsure

Art Deco is an influential visual arts design style with a sleek, futuristic aesthetic that first appeared in France just before World War I. It reached its height in the 1920s and 30s, when it was the epitome of coolness and luxury before its popularity waned after World War II.

Art Deco is short for Arts Décoratifs. It took its name from the 1925 Parisian Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, which was the first major international exhibition of decorative art after the First World War.
